Few Word Friday

I thought I would share a few pictures of the boys. I took these this afternoon after cleaning stalls. :)

More On Jumps

I thought Jumping was so much fun at Dawson Butte, but I wanted to be more prepared for the bigger jumps and have a better seat. So, my horse trainer came out, we took a break on body control, and we jumped Ollie yesterday.

Ollie loves jumping, and he really picks his feet up. We had to lift the jumps more though because he started to just canter over the small jumps because he is so athletic.

Pretty Boy

All of his groundwork is paying off-he now easily canters in a circle around the person with a lot of slack in the rope.

He is incredibly willing to try nearly anything-maybe that is part of his Appaloosa nature. While he may be stubborn sometimes, I am glad that he is ready to learn anything thrown at him (except maybe a plastic bag.....still working on that).

After he started to get the idea of jumping and where his body is, I saddled him and got on.

Mrs. June helped show me where my hands are supposed to be, and a friend of mine who has been jumping for years also came by and showed me what to do considering posture.

I was still using a Western saddle, although I do have an english saddle. I haven't ridden English in a while, and I knew that I would be more comfortable in the Western Saddle. However, I will probably get my english saddle out next time!

"Don't look at the jump...."

"Prepare for the jump....contact, contact!!"

"Start to lean forward and slide your hands up his neck..."

"OVER!!"

I had a great time working more on jumping, and while jumping is also fun, it is teaching Ollie more about how to use his body. Just during this lesson, I asked him to canter from a walk without and trot steps in the correct lead and he did it! I have NEVER been able to get that out of him yet, and just during the lesson I asked him three times and he did all three times without fail. While the lesson was about jumping, probably the most monumental thing to me was when he did that.

Until next time!

Dawson Butte

On Saturday my friends called me and asked if I would like for them to trailer Ollie and I and come with them to Dawson Butte. I happily said yes, and after a quick 30 minute drive, we unloaded our horses, tacked them up, and were off on to the trail.

The scenery was breathtaking. The warm fall air, the changing leaves, the clean trails, the blue sky, and the tall foothills in the background were so beautiful. It was a perfect afternoon to be out with the horses.

L to R: Alex and Remy, Olivia and Pepper, and me on Ollie.

Happy!!

Buddies

Dawson Butte has a lot of cross country jumps, and while I have never jumped before, and Ollie had never jumped before, and we were in a Western Saddle, we still decided to give it a try.

Ollie started to figure out how the whole jumping thing worked (as well as I!). He was so willing to jump all of the jumps and he really enjoyed doing it!

...and by the end he started to look like quite the jumping horse!

I had so much fun at Dawson Butte, and I am so thankful for my friends who invited me to come along, and I sure hope we can go again before the weather gets bad!

1 Year Anniversary

One year ago, this happened.

(See the horse trailer in the background?)

Ollie's first picture in his new home.

We put him in the round pen.....

....and that started the journey with my stubborn brat. XD

The next morning, I let him out in the front pasture and he got his first taste of the new grass.

Then I had my first photo-shoot with him.
Blah. That mane! I am so glad it has grown out.

Our first rides were a little bumpy.....
See my jeans? Yeah, he ripped those during the ride.
..but as the year progressed, he improved.

I watched him get his winter coat...

So DIRTY!!!

...and then become all sleek again.

After a bath. June 2015

He was there through the selling of three horses.....

Ollie with Rosie and Half Pint-sold May 2015

Cheyenne (far right) sold September 2015

Current mare-Billie Jean September 2015-

...and stills remains as playful as ever.

I have learned so much, and he has too.

His mane has improved....

He may be a little bit more difficult sometimes, but I wouldn't have it any other way. :)

I am excited to see what next year brings, and what new things Ollie and I will have to overcome.
